Our visit to Lesotho, South Africa
In May our buyer Ger Vlaming travelled to South Africa to visit our supplier of organic rosehip seeds.
Our rosehip seeds grow in the beautiful highlands of Lesotho. The rosehip bushes grow abundantly
in the wild throughout the beautiful mountains of Maloti in Lesotho.
At De Wit Speciality Oils we put a strong emphasis on maintaining a good relationship with our suppliers.
We select our seed suppliers based on our knowledge and expertise in order to guarantee excellent quality ingredients.
Rosehip seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the fruit on a rosehip seed bush. The rosehips are handpicked by the locals of Lesotho.
Picking rosehips is an important source of income for the local community in the winter. Rosehip has transformed the local
community by providing employment and a sustainable income.
The collected rosehip berries are placed in bags and brought to the drying facility.
Drying rosehips is a slow process, as the shell of the rosehips must not be burnt.
After drying the berries, the rosehip seeds must be separated from the rosehip shells.
We then press the seeds in order to make our rosehip oil. The shells are used for making rosehip tea.
It is important for Ger to regularly visit our important suppliers like this one in Lesotho, South Africa.
Besides checking out the operation and strengthening the relationship it is nice to see where our products originate from.
We are proud of our Organic Rosehip Seed Oil.
